Renegade scholar and anthropological theorist Randall Carlson believes he has scientific evidence in support of the theory that the advanced civilization of Atlantis existed and sank approximately 11,000 years ago.

In the early 1990’s, glaciologists and paleoclimatologists extracted ice cores from the summit of Greenland, an ice sheet over two miles thick. The samples were measured for oxygen isotopes, and the data revealed a massive shift in temperature and glacial melting between 11,600-14,000 years ago.

Carlson compared this information to data gathered from fossils on Late Pleistocene mammalian mortality, which also showed a massive spike in extinction of species between 11,000-13,000 years ago. This mass extinction directly correlates to the two massive meltwater pulses to world oceans around the same time, suggesting, not that bands of hunters migrated and killed off over a hundred species of mammoths and other large mammals as has been the generally accepted theory of the past fifty years, but that what occurred could be more accurately likened to a climatological catastrophe. Carlson takes his examinations of the mysteries of Atlantis a step further by crossing disciplines to classical philosophy, examining Plato’s recounting of his dialogues, Timaeus and Critias, in a two-part online lecture series. The discussion will include an overview of Plato’s dialogues, proposed sites of the lost island, and the plausibility of the existence of the advanced civilization of Atlantis as according to modern scientific knowledge. The first is now available online, and the second will stream on February 20th. You can stream both parts online for $33 HERE.
